The Reluctant Radical

The most radical thing I ever heard anyone in my family say was when my paternal grandfather, who suffered lifelong PTSD from his service as a doctor in World War II in the Pacific, expressed approval of the Catholic peace activist Philip Berrigan banging a hammer on U.S. nuclear missile silos in protest of the threat of nuclear war.

The ‘United States’ May Be Over, But the Idea of America Is Not

The only way I can see to avert even more widespread violence than we are now suffering, followed by an attempt to impose a fascist dictatorship, followed by national disintegration on a scale that will dwarf the destruction and loss of life in Syria and Ukraine, would be an enormous, peaceful popular uprising of a kind rarely seen in history.
