All Aboard That Last Train To Nuremberg!
Like the unavoidable conclusion of some hideous mathematical formula, the free-free-Palestines have made it official: they will do their utmost to help Trump and MAGA destroy American democracy.
Dig it: haven’t you heard their chants of “No votes for Genocide Joe”? It’s a zombie version of the late 1960’s anti-Vietnam War slogan, “Hey, hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today,” except infinitely more nonsensical. In case you need it spelled out: The American war in Vietnam was, in fact, killing a lot of Vietnamese children 56 years ago, but the accusation that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians with U.S. support is a twisted lie meant to promote the all-too-real Hamas-Hezbollah-Iran effort to commit genocide against the people of Israel.
Never mind the truth, the free-free-Palestines are determined to have their fun, all peace n’ free love n’ kill the settler-colonialist-white-oppressor Jews. Dig it, history is offering us so many fun rhymes this year! The Democratic National Convention is being held in Chicago, just like in 1968! We’re gonna have another riot for peace, yeah man, with “No votes for Genocide Joe!” standing in for “Dump the Hump!” The “Hump” was Vice President Hubert Humphrey, the civil rights champion who was the Democratic nominee in 1968, and the chaos in the streets of Chicago, brought to you courtesy of all those peace-loving “kids” and Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley’s cops, ensured Nixon’s election that fall. So apparently we’re in for an awful “reboot” of that whole dreadful series of events, but who’s gonna stand in for the late Abbie Hoffman? The free-free-Palestines aren’t exactly big on humor.
If you don’t care for that analogy, how about Ralph Nader 2000? It was thanks to the Original Dr. Airbag running as a third-party candidate that year that we got Dubya and Dick Cheney for eight years. To this day, Nader refuses to admit any responsibility. Perhaps some of the free-free-Palestines will repent someday, and boy, will they ever have a lot to atone for.
It’s no coincidence, as Stalinoid Communists used to say, that Susan Sarandon is “in the vanguard” of the free-free-Palestines, and she certainly doesn’t care if her latest “cause” gives Trump the crucial margin of victory. As she said in 2016, it’s all to the benefit of her imaginary revolution if Trump gets in, because that will “heighten the contradictions,” as the Stalinoids liked to put it, creating conditions so awful that The People will have no choice but to revolt. Only a historical illiterate could believe such a cartoonish view of “revolution.”
The reality is this: Whatever they may say, the free-free-Palestines are now Trump’s allies. In that, they are backing “the strong horse,” as their new “resistance” hero Osama Bin Laden liked to put it. There is every indication, following the Iowa caucuses, that Trump will crush his fractionally hearted Republican opponents on his Megatron March to claim the nomination, and will then win in November fair n’ square, thanks to his cult and the DABOR vote. The latter, dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks sector of the electorate is all mad at Biden over inflation or something, and has bought into Trump’s lie that “his” economy was great until that whole unpleasant COVID business that we’ve all agreed to forget, along with one million dead Americans, half of whom might still be alive if they hadn’t drunk Trump’s bleach.
Dig it: if the people vote to abolish democracy, no power on Earth can stop them. America’s “Founding Fathers” would be sad, but not in the least surprised, because they knew democracy cannot survive if the electorate lacks what they called “virtue.” That’s a term that goes all the way back to the ancient Greek thinkers, but to avoid having this turn into a philosophy seminar, let’s put it this way: When your average adult American:
- Knows no history
- Knows nothing about how her government works
- Has bought the MAGA lie, corroborated even by “mainstream” non-fascist media, that there is a “migrant crisis” of scary brown-skinned people threatening to steal her job and cut her lawn
- Gets all her “facts” from TikTok (thank you, Xi Jinping!), and
- Is a binge-watcher of “reality TV,” through which she learned that Trump is a “successful businessman”
…then democracy is about to become part of that history that America knows nothing about.
I wept when the TV screened that obligatory clip of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech on his birthday, and then showed a beautiful young Black boy reciting his words, that “one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.” Because not only will that never happen, but unless some miracle occurs in the next ten months, America is about to turn its back on the very possibility.
