Which Side Are You On?

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran, murderer of young women, and progressive hero?

At the end of last September, President Biden’s National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, said at The Atlantic Festival, “The Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades.” Eight says later, Nazis in the garb of the “Islamic Resistance Movement,” aka Hamas, invaded southern Israel in force, murdering about 1,200 Israelis in the most heinous ways imaginable, in an orgy of rape, fire, and blasphemous cries that “God is great!” They took some two hundred forty captives, touched off the bitterest war the Middle East has seen since the Syrian civil war, and set off a global hate-fest against the Jewish people of an intensity not seen since the last Nazi outbreak was defeated in May 1945.

Some quiet. Poor Jake Sullivan — he knows that posterity will probably remember him for teasing the dragons of Fate long after it has forgotten anything else he ever did in his life.

Now quiet has returned, although not to the Middle East, thanks to the “Islamic Republic of Iran,” which readers will recall was born amid the sacking of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in November 1979, when it took dozens of American diplomats hostage for more than a year. Over the weekend, the posse of pious pirates who have stained one of humanity’s oldest and greatest civilizations decided to “avenge” the purported outrage of Israel violating the sanctity of Iran’s embassy in Syria with a raid that took out senior plotters in its “Revolutionary Guard” terrorist organization, by launching a wave of 300 or more missiles and drones at the Jewish state. Most were intercepted thanks to Israel’s superb missile defense system, with key assistance from the Americans, the British, the French, and the Jordanians.

So the holy warrior Ayatollah Ali Khameini can only take credit for a single casualty — 7-year old Amina Hassouna, a Palestinian Bedouin Israeli who hangs between life and death in Israel’s Soroka Hospital.

What are the Free-Free-Palestine heroes of the Global Left doing? They are quiet, very quiet. Suspiciously silent, one is tempted to say. Has it started to dawn on a few of them that Amina’s blood is on their hands? AOC has been mum on Elon Musk’s zombie Nazified Twitter. Rashida Tlaib, last seen snarling at a reporter who dared ask her if she had anything to say about “Death to America” chants at a “pro-Palestine” rally in her district, has been as quiet as a mouse. Senator Elizabeth Warren, last seen blowing smoke on her own accusation that Israel is committing genocide, condemned the Iranian attack, which would seem to be illogical. Or perhaps she didn’t really mean the genocide accusation? For a former law professor, she seems sadly addled.

“Whose streets? Our streets!” the Global Left loves to chant, but those streets were pretty peaceful over the weekend, for all the CEASEFIRE NOW people were nowhere to be seen when the “Islamic Republic of Iran” was raining fire on the Jewish state.

Well, they weren’t completely silent in Chicago or Toronto, where they whooped and hollered at the prospect of more incinerated Jews. But most of their comrades were.

This is the Global Left that made a mass decision, almost immediately after October 7, to become a sort of collective suicide bomber, sacrificing its future and placing every single thing it claimed to be fighting for in jeopardy in the name of a Palestine free of Jews, “from the river to the sea,” and of “globalizing the intifada” — violent attacks on Jews all over the world.

Where are they now? Where is their concern for the Palestinians now that the Palestinian child Amina Hassouna is in critical condition in a hospital thanks to “the Islamic Republic of Iran”?

You see, friends, it does not matter that you or I accuse these worthies of hypocrisy, or more precisely, of bad faith — racists who pretend to be anti-racists, misogynists who attack rape survivors yet claim to be feminists, “queers” who care nothing for what happens to Palestinian queers, as long as Jews die. It does matter, though, what they decide in the coming days. It matters how many of them defect from the movement, like the people who quit the Communist Party in August 1939 after Stalin’s embrace of Hitler. And it matters how many of them continue to toe the Palestine-Judenrein line, even though it means standing with Khamenei and his “morality police” who beat young girls to death in the streets if they refuse to shroud their hair.

Which side are you on? Which side are you on? And are you really sure anymore, oh progressives, which is “the right side of history”?
